As of October 2015, Dr. Harold Nolte worked as president of Dodge City Community College in Dodge City, Kansas. Prior to this position, he spent several years as district president at Blinn College in Brenham, Texas. Before moving from Texas, Dr. Harold Nolte was heavily involved in several organizations near Brenham, one of which includes the Washington-on-the-Brazos State Park Association.
The oldest support group for the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, the Washington-on-the-Brazos State Park Association began in the 1950s as a way to preserve the area and offer educational programming. It also supplies funding for personnel, spearheads funding for the visitor center, helped reconstruct Independence Hall, and assisted in purchasing the home of Dr. Anson Jones.
The association sponsors events throughout the year in order to get the public involved in the park. One of these events, which occurred on December 12, 2015, was the Christmas-on-the-Brazos at Washington-on-the-Brazos. This one-day celebration included 19th-century Texas aspects, including craft making, food, and period music. Santa also made a visit to this free event. The main event, the Candlelit Christmas, took place at the Barrington Living History Farm, and included 1850s holiday traditions.
